Since device manager doesn't show a difference between the two installers, the easiest way to check what version you have installed should be to open up the security catalog for the driver and check the "Effective Date": C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\uruwbf.inf_amd64_df8fc64a1803b4ca\uruwbf.catįor posterity, I have included the SHA256 hashes for the files I reviewed:
Ultimately not sure what was changed with the driver, but it might be worthwile to check and potentially update.

When I extracted the drivers from the EXE wrapped MSI, there were two sets of drivers, one set with the August 8 and one set signed Thursday, September 17, 2015 7:48:00 PM.

(* I did not actually install this older driver on my computer with a physical fingerprint reader. The drivers from the "DigitalPersona 4500 WBF driver 5.0.0.5.zip" file have digital signature signing times of "Tuesday, August 8, 2017 12:59:19 PM" and the 'Readme.txt' file mentions the date "August 18 2017". The drivers from the "4500_wbf_driver_5.0.0.5_rs3.zip" file have digital signature signing times of "Thursday, October 26, 2017 2:11:53 PM" and the 'Readme.txt' file mentions the date "November 15 2017". While it's not referenced anywhere else, the filename of the ZIP from HID's site references "5.0.0.5_rs3" and contains newer files. Not sure when it appeared, but HID's site has a unrestricted driver download: Since this thread shows up pretty highly on searches for "u.are.u 4500 fingerprint reader", I figured I would bump this with some info I have found, including an 'official' link and a newer driver than the other ones posted here.
